Poha chivda|Poha mixture|Flattened rice mixture|Roasted Poha Farsan|Aval Mixture|Poha Namkeen|Patal Poha chivda

Ingredients

  • 2 cups poha (flattened rice- red/white poha)
  • ½ cup peanuts
  • ¼ cup chana dal
  • 1 tbps raisins
  • ½ cup dry coconut thin slices (khopra)
  • 4 tbps cold pressed oil

For Tempering

  •  Curry leaves
  • Green chilies (chopped into small pieces)
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • 2 tsps of sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Cold Pressed Oil

Method Of Preparation

  1. In a thick bottomed kadhai, dry roast poha on a low flame. Use a flat spoon to just lightly toss the poha in this process. Care must be taken to not break them, as poha is very delicate
  2. After about 2-3 minutes, the poha will become crispy. Do not over fry the poha, as there are chances of it getting browned. Remove the roasted poha on a plate and keep aside
  3. Heat oil in a kadhai. Fry peanuts till they become crispy. Do not burn them. Remove onto a plate & keep aside
  4. Also fry the chana dal in the same way. Remove & keep aside
  5. In the same kadhai (with the oil) fry the khopra for a minute or two. Remove & keep aside
  6. Now fry the raisins till they swell up. Remove & keep aside

For the tempering –

  1. Heat oil in a kadhai. Add curry leaves, green chillies and asafoetida. Let them cook on low flame for about a minute or two
  2. To it add turmeric powder and salt. Give it a good mix

Making the chivda

  1. To the kadhai that has the tempered items (see previous steps) add the other ingredients – roasted poha, peanuts, chana dal, raisins and khopra. Saute everything well so that the mixture gets coated. This will take about 3 to 5 minutes
  2. Sprinkle sugar over the mixturre
  3. Mix everything gently ensuring the poha doesn’t break

Once cooled, enjoy this simple yet healthy home-made poha chivda with tea.

Tips

  1. Be very gentle while mixing the poha. They tend to break easily
  2. Do not over-fry any ingredient. It will give a bitter taste to the mixture
  3. This mixture can be stored in an air-tight container for upto a month
