Urad Dal or Split Black Lentils are extremely high on protein, fibre and mineral content like Iron & Magnesium. This also makes it a good weight gain recipe for baby & kids.
This porridge is also called Ulundu Kanji as traditional south Indian baby food recipe, also used during pregnancy & breast-feeding. It has rice, methi/fungreek seeds and garlic cloves too, so a great winter food for everyone.
Ingredients
Urad dal – 1/4th cup
Red/white rice – 2 tbsp
Palm Jaggery – 1/4th cup
Milk – 1 cup
Salt – ½ tsp
Garlic cloves -2
Ginger powder – ½ tsp
Fenugreek – 1/4th tsp
Method Of Preparation
1.In a vessel, add urad dal, rice & fenugreek seeds. Wash them together
2.Add garlic cloves. Add 1.5 cups water
3.Pressure cook for 5 whisltes
4.Grind this urad dal mix in a mixer
5.In a pan, add some water. Add palm jaggery
6.Stir until the palm jaggery dissolves
7.Strain to remove impurities.
8.Add the ground urad dal mix to a pan.
9.Add the strained palm jaggery syrup & give it a good stir, while cooking it on low flame
10.Now add milk and mix everything well. Let it cook for a few more minutes
11.Add salt, ginger powder & give it a final stir
Porridge is ready!
