A fun-looking recipe to introduce red rice for kids. It is not just higher in fibre but has a lot of anti-oxidants called anthocyanins compared to the regular white rice we eat. So it’s great to use them at least once in a while in a few innovative recipes like these.
Its fancy name is dumplings, but its traditional name is “kozhukattai”, a steamed healthy meal made in various fun shapes, prepared within 20 minutes.
Ingredients:
- Soaked Red Rice – 1 Cup
- Urad Dal – 1 Tsp
- Salt to taste
- Red Chilli – 1
- Hing (optional)
- Mustard Seeds – 1/2 Tsp
- Oil for seasoning
- Chopped onion
Method:
- Grind the rice with water to make a fine paste. It can be a little runny.
- Add all the ingredients for seasoning, saute for 2 mins and now add the red rice batter to cook for 5 mins
- The batter becomes a thick dough.
- Once slightly cooled, roll them into fun shapes for kids
- Steam these dumplings for 15 minutes
