Bajra Porridge for Babies

Bajra Porridge

Bajra Porridge is a nutritious & healthy recipe. Bajra is one of the highest sources of iron – Bajra or Pearl Millet, hence it should become a very crucial part of our toddlers/kids diet.

Research by National Institute of Nutrition, India shows that 70% of the kids under the age of 5 are Anaemic (low iron in the body). That is massive. This issue will get worse if we continue to feed single grain foods. Dont just stick to rice an wheat and dal We need to add more cereals to our diet naturally.

So here is a porridge recipe that you can easily make and feed at home for your little one.

Age: 6-8 Months and above (without the nuts & jaggery). 8 months and above can enjoy this with nuts and seeds.

Ingredients:
– ¼ cup Bajra Flour (Or use Bajra & Pumpkin Seeds Porridge Mix from Early Foods)
-½ tsp Dry fruits powder (Available at Early Foods Dry Fruits & Seeds Powder too)
-1 tbsp jaggery powder (optional for babies)
-2 cups water
-A pinch of Cardamom powder
-1 tsp Ghee

Instructions:

1.In a saucepan, take the bajra flour and add dry fruits powder and powdered cardamom. Add water and mix well without any lumps.

2.Now cook everything in a low flame for 5 minutes or until the Bajra gets cooked well. Stir it continuously otherwise it gets stick to the bottom.

3.Adjust with water if it’s getting too thick.

4.Once the bajra flour is cooked, add jaggery powder.

5.Mix well and cook until the porridge consistency is reached and the nice aroma comes. It may take 5 minutes. Once done, add ghee if desired and switch off the flame.  Serve bajra porridge warm
