With Diwali fast approaching, do give this healthy foxtail millet kheer a try to add sweetness to your little one’s festivities. How to make traditional homemade desserts fun for kids? We all have kids who crave for donuts, cakes, chocolates, other processed sweets etc. But if we just give up to their craving, their craving only gets bigger.
Instead, provide them alternative healthy traditional sweets that you can make easily at home. A kheer made from millets, a atta halwa, a simple ragi or dry fruit laddoo, coconut laddoos etc. and offer more frequently. Kids will definitely understand that yes, homecooked desserts can be yummy, fun and genuinely help them become stronger.
Foxtail Millet Kheer Recipe:
Age: 8 months and above (with little jaggery as required)
Method:
– Wash & Soak 1 cup Foxtail Millet for 4 hours
– Use the same soaked water to cook it soft for 15 mins
– Add 250mL milk that has been thickened, by being cooked on a low flame for 20 mins
– In a separate pan, add 2Tbs ghee and dry fruits for seasoning
– Add them to the kheer for an extra crunch
– Switch off and then add 1/2 cup of jaggery (or as per taste)
– Mix well and serve warm
Imp notes: Avoid condensed milk or milk powder for kids. Its too processed. Always stick to good sources of milk – Organic A2 Milk or just fresh cow’s milk at home. You can also use almond or coconut milk. If you use plant based milks, dont heat it for too long
